Welcome to Gebbie & Wilson Solicitors
Established since 1816, Gebbie & Wilson are one of the longest practising law firms in Scotland. We provide our broad range of clients with comprehensive personal and business legal services varying from private property transactions to commercial litigation.
Our aim is to combine the quality of legal work offered by city firms with the personal service associated with a country practice. The calibre and experience of our people, complemented by the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of our country town location, enable us to achieve this.
Our services include:
The term ‘private client’ is used by solicitors to refer to the body of work relating to the management of an individual’s personal affairs. One of the longest established firms in Scotland, we have been offering our services to clients in Strathaven and South Lanarkshire over three centuries.
Dispute Resolution and Court Solicitors
We have the range knowledge and skills to deal with a variety of situations and ensure you achieve a cost-effective result as quickly as possible.
Employment Law & Settlement Agreement Advice
We can advise on all areas of employment law including unfair dismissal, redundancy, contractual disputes, discrimination, compromise agreements (now known as ‘settlement agreements’, TUPE and maternity and paternity issues.
We are founder members of Glasgow Solicitors’ Property Centre (GSPC) and, while we continue to specialise in properties in the Strathaven and surrounding area, our access to the GSPC network of some 200 Solicitors’ offices throughout Glasgow and Lanarkshire has enabled us to considerably widen our estate agency catchment area.
Indeed, our GSPC membership lets us market properties for our clients via any of the Solicitors’ Property Centres throughout Scotland. If you are thinking of selling your house, our Property Manager, Carol Lamont, will be pleased to offer you a free, no-obligations, opinion of its value and to provide full details of our estate agency service.
You can download Schedules of Particulars for the properties we are currently marketing – and thousands of others throughout West Central Scotland – from the GSPC web site.
Conveyancing can seem like a confusing, complex process, but we can help make the process simple for you.
If a loved one has recently passed on, it can be difficult to deal with the legal formalities of managing their estate at what is a very difficult time.
Planning for the Future – Inheritance Tax
Planning ahead for when you die isn’t always easy, but it can take the strain of administering your affairs away from your loved ones. Making a will, setting up a power of attorney, establishing a trust and maximising your inheritance tax reliefs can all help lighten the burden on your family, as well as ensuring your final wishes are carried out.
Inheritance tax, commonly shortened to IHT, is a tax which is payable from your estate on death. The law allows you to minimise the amount of tax which is paid by arranging your affairs in order to reduce your overall IHT liability.
If you have suffered an injury in the last three years and it wasn’t your fault, you may be entitled to compensation. Gebbie and Wilson are personal injury solicitors. We aim to get our clients the compensation they deserve, while offering a professional, personal service.
Power of Attorney
We all want what is best for our loved ones. Planning ahead to deal with difficult scenarios is one way we can look after our loved ones. One way to do this is to put in place a power of attorney.
We have been acting for businesses in South Lanarkshire for two centuries. We have extensive experience across a wide range of business sectors and across a range of transactions and can help you whether you own or manage a small business or a large corporation.
We specialise in:
Agriculture, Business Purchase, Commercial Conveyancing, Commercial Leases, Debt Recovery, Insolvency, Windfarms and much more besides.
If you can’t see the service you’re looking for, get in touch.
Like all of our work, our work for private and business clients is undertaken according to our philosophy:
personal service – professional quality – people count.
